The ECSEL Initiative is made possible through the generosity of Mr. William Schoenfeld, a businessman and philanthropist based Hong Kong. He believes in the power of talented, hardworking young people to change the world for the better by creating transformative businesses. He created the first ECSEL project in 2008, where 11 Chinese students were given scholarships to attend CGI U. Now, with the help of the partners listed below, ECSEL is growing to include more students and offer an expanded program. The University of the Pacific is a Private University in Stockton, California, originally affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university was chartered on July 10, 1851, in Santa Clara under the name “California Wesleyan College.” In 1858, the college opened the first medical school on the West Coast. The medical school later became part of Stanford and is now California Pacific Medical Center. Previously known as “COP” and then “UOP,” the school is primarily known by the nickname of “Pacific” to avoid any association with University of Phoenix.

The ECSEL project began as a Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) “Commitment to Action,” those initiatives undertaken by CGI members to use their skills and resources to better the world. CGI and its university program, Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI-U) are both projects of the William J Clinton Foundation. After leaving the White House, President Clinton created the Foundation to focus on worldwide issues that demand urgent action, solutions, and measurable results -- global climate change, HIV/AIDS in the developing world, childhood obesity and economic opportunity in the United States, and economic development in Africa and Latin America.

Youth Business Development China is the China chapter for the Youth Business Development International initiative of the Oxford Said Business School.  Founded in 2007, YBDC is a student-led organization that strives to empower Chinese young social entrepreneurs and promote social entrepreneurship in China by providing competition, training, networking opportunities and support to current and future social entrepreneurs. YBDC empowers young people to think critically about how they can make the world a better place, and then provides them with the funding, opportunity and tools to bring about change.

The Social Entrepreneurship Business Competition (SEBC) has been launched with the purpose to encourage entrepreneurs think creatively about (for- profit) business solutions. SEBC invites teams of MBA students from across Mainland China to submit their business ideas or solutions on innovative social enterprise.
